One of the most exhaustive endeavors when it comes to making money online is to build a blog. But we all know that building a blog with real readership is difficult. It takes a lot of work. And I’m speaking from experience. However, once you reach a certain point, the progress and momentum sways in your favor and it becomes far easier.
Blogs can easily generate tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars per month when done right. Yes, that much. But it won’t be easy to get there. However, looking back on it, a year from now you’ll wish you started today. So why wait another moment?
From his statement, one can understand how lucrative blogging is after one’s blog becomes well-rooted. But how does one start a blog?
It starts with finding a niche for blogging. How to Start a Successful Blog in 2017 contains good information about tips and steps in starting a successful blog, why one should be blogging, and why one should not.
With good content and traffic, a blogger can make a lucrative earning.
Blogging can be of many forms. You can do video blogging (termed as vlogs), photography blogs, or niche blogs.
Some of the niche bloggers that you may look into as examples in Bhutan are:
But how can I earn by blogging?
To earn from your blog(s) you can monetize it. The most popular way to monetize a blog is to use AdSense.
Once your blog becomes attractive enough that other blogger wants links from your site, explore on providing paid promotional links.
2. Affiliate Marketing
There are thousands of companies that take advantage of their affiliates as a marketing tool. Affiliate marketing would mean the process of earning commissions promoting other peoples/company’s products.
For instance, one can be an Amazon affiliate marketer. With it, one can start own online store without having to invest anything to buy products for sale.
After selling these products, one can earn some commissions from Amazon.
To freelance is to work from home at one’s own convenience. Based on the freelancer’s expertise, he or she can work any sort of work – ranging from copy-pasting to programming!
Upwork and Fiverr are two popular freelancing sites opted by freelancers in Bhutan.
If you have the skill to do something better than what others can do, there is always a way to use these skills for earning a living.
4. Content Writing
Any businesses require an online presence. This is why there is a huge demand for creative content writers.
Based on your interests, you can explore building a network of clients. For example, if you are interested in writing travel blogs, build a good network of travel agents or tour booking companies.
I am citing this example because I do this myself personally. I write for some international travel agents based outside Bhutan. These companies require stories from Bhutan, but coming here to explore and write stories is more expensive than investing in local content writers.
Similar conditions apply to other businesses such as eCommerce platforms. These companies selling Bhutanese merchandise require content writers with deep knowledge of Bhutan to add value to their product listings.
How to do network building? The simplest thing is to showcase your works. Build a decent profile to show to your clients. For instance, you can create a Facebook page to publish your works. Or create a blog on free platforms such as Blogger or WordPress.
Showing your work profile would help convince your client to choose you over other competitors in the market.
Mind you, this is a highly competitive market because everyone can do this.
As you get more and more clients, your income streams would increase.
5. Sell Images on Stock Image Sites like ShutterStock
If you have a talent for photography or work as a photographer, you may make money online by selling your photographs on Shutterstock or any other stock image sites. Canva Contributor Hub is another example worth sharing.
If you’re unfamiliar with Shutterstock, let me explain. It’s a platform where people can purchase and sell digital media such as photos, music, and video clips, which are mostly made by freelancers (like you).
When someone buys one of your photos, you get a commission, which is usually a few cents or a $1. To make more money on Shutterstock, you must upload high-quality photographs on a regular basis. But it is a very competitive market.
